Summer Fun at Wisconsin County Fairs: A Must-Do Guide
Summer in Wisconsin means one thing: county fairs. These beloved local events are the perfect way to soak up the season’s best moments with family and friends. Here’s a guide to making the most of your county fair experience in Wisconsin this summer.
Food Galore
County fair food is a huge attraction as they are renowned for their food. From deep-fried delights to classic Wisconsin cheese curds, there’s something to satisfy every craving. Don’t miss out on trying a cream puff, a state fair staple, or savoring a hearty bratwurst hot off the grill. For dessert, indulge in funnel cakes dusted with powdered sugar or a scoop of fresh, locally made ice cream. And if it’s fried and on a stick, it’s gotta be good.
Exciting Rides and Games
No fair is complete without the thrill of carnival rides. Whether you’re a fan of the dizzying heights of the Ferris wheel, the twists and turns of roller coasters, or the gentle sway of the carousel, there’s fun for all ages. Test your skills at the many midway games – who knows, you might just win a giant stuffed animal!
Live Entertainment
Wisconsin county fairs boast a variety of live entertainment options. Catch local bands, watch thrilling demolition derbies, or enjoy traditional country music performances or maybe even a popular Christian music group.
Free Entertainment
Don’t miss out on FREE entertainment options. Most county fairs will have a free stage for family shows. That’s where I come in. I enjoy performing my comic juggling shows at fairs and festivals across the state. This year I’ll be performing at the Jakcson County Fair in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, August 2, 3 and 4. Then I’ll head to Iron River, Wisconsin for the Bayfield County Fair with shows on August 9, 10, and 11. From there I get to perform at the Door County Fair. (My first fair ever.) I’ll have stage shows on August 16, 17 and 18. I’ll end my brief yet exciting fair tour at the Calumet County Fair in Chilton, Wisconsin on August 30, 31, September 1 and 2. Come check out The Juggler With The Yellow Shoes.
Animal Encounters
Experience the charm of rural Wisconsin with animal exhibits and petting zoos. Most fairs will have a variety of animals to check out. Meet cows, pigs, sheep, and more, and learn about the state’s rich agricultural heritage. Kids will especially love the chance to interact with gentle farm animals. And then there’s the horses. Ah, the horses.
Unique Exhibits and Competitions
Stroll through the exhibit halls to see impressive displays of crafts, baked goods, and artwork. 4H is a big part of county fairs in Wisconsin. If you’re a kid, you could get a blue ribbon for your photos or for the chicken you raised. You can witness local talent in various competitions, from pie-eating contests to best-in-show livestock awards. These exhibits highlight the creativity and skill of Wisconsin’s residents. Volunteer to be a part of your local fair.
Community Connection
Lastly, county fairs are about community. They offer a chance to connect with neighbors, support local vendors, and enjoy a sense of togetherness. So, this summer, make sure to visit one of Wisconsin’s many county fairs. You’ll create unforgettable memories while celebrating the best of what the state has to offer. And when you’re there, check out a show by Dan Kirk, The Juggler With The Yellow Shoes.
